Buying a Home in Didsbury, Alberta: A Buyer's Guide

by Adam McMillan

Didsbury sits on Highway 2A between Carstairs and Olds, close to Highway 2 and within commuting distance of Airdrie and north Calgary. It's a quiet, friendly town with schools, a hospital and local shops, surrounded by farmland and acreages.

Who buys in Didsbury?

First-time buyers and young families priced out of bigger centres, commuters who want a small-town home base, and acreage buyers who want town services close by.

What to know before you buy

  • Newer vs. established areas. Didsbury has both older character homes and newer subdivisions. Compare age, upkeep and lot size, not just price.
  • Acreages nearby. Rural properties around Didsbury need the usual checks: water well, septic, road access and land use with Mountain View County.
  • Commute. Test the drive to work at the time you'd actually travel, especially in winter.
  • Resale. Location within town, lot size and garage space all affect how easily a home sells later.
